WHAT SEGOY WROTE
Hi Elena, just spoke with the Auckland team. They can ship the beta by the 9th. Can you move our review to Thursday morning? Thanks.
Punctuation, casing, and numerals are the model’s job, not yours. The dotted word came from your own dictionary — names and jargon, spelled the way you spell them.
Privacy here is architecture, not policy. There is no server to reach, no account to sign into, and no audio upload to opt out of. The transcription engine is installed on your machine and speaks to the app over a local socket.
Turn on flight mode and dictate the whole flight. Nothing degrades, because nothing was remote to begin with.
Your words live in one folder. Transcription history is a file in Application Support — yours to search, export, or delete. This page keeps the same promise: no analytics, no cookies, no trackers.
Recruiters’ calls, medical notes, half-formed drafts at 2 a.m. Some things are worth saying out loud precisely because no one else is listening.
Mail, Slack, Xcode, a form in Safari, a commit message in the terminal. Segoy inserts finished text at the insertion point of whatever app is frontmost — there is no window to paste out of.
Globe (fn), Caps Lock, or Tab. Hold-to-talk like a radio, or tap to toggle for longer passages.
Teach it names, jargon, and shorthand once. Longest match wins, word boundaries respected, snippets expand whole phrases.
Every dictation searchable and deletable, stored on disk beside the app. Copy or re-paste the last one from the menu bar.
No Dock icon, no floating palette. A small tide-mark in the menu bar that only speaks when spoken to.
“Only in silence the word, only in dark the light…” THE CREATION OF ÉA · URSULA K. LE GUIN, A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA
In Le Guin’s Earthsea, Segoy is the Eldest — the one who spoke the First Word and raised the islands from the sea. Speech that makes something that stays.
That is the entire job description of this app, so it carries the name. And the epigraph turned out to be the privacy policy: only in silence, the word.
Free · macOS 14 or later · Apple Silicon · a 1.7 MB installer; the speech model sets itself up on first launch.
